Labour politicians, the media, and the ‘left’ have all been lulled by Burnham’s ‘hopeful’ vision. These people have no idea how removed they are from the real mood in society. Events across the Channel paint a very different picture of where things are headed in Britain.
Europe has been set alight by mass protests, led by the youth. From sky-high rents, to dilapidated schools, to militarism and austerity – workers and youth in Britain share all of the conditions that led to this social explosion.
Events in France are moving at a lightning pace. Thousands of school students across the country have joined the powerful mobilisations of fire fighters and public sector workers, facing heavy-handed police repression. But how can the movement succeed?

In her latest column, Fiona Lali explains how “the job of communists today is not simply to expose the ills of capitalism, they have already been laid bare for the world to see. Our job is to overcome the cynicism and despair that holds us back.”
