The most chaotic presidential election of the Fifth Republic has resulted in the election of a new head of state. Millions of left-wing voters held their noses and reluctantly voted for Macron in order to defeat Marine Le Pen. The Rebellious France movement must now organise and mobilise to fight both Macron and Le Pen.

In a ballot by Jean Luc Melenchon of his supporters in the radical left movement of the Rebellious France, a two-thirds majority rejected supporting the so-called “lesser evil” of Macron in the second round of the French elections. This is yet another sign of the growing mood of militancy and anger amongst workers and youth in France.

The second round of the French presidential elections present workers and youth with the “choice” between a banker and xenophobe. Neither offers any alternative for the working class. The focus must now be on transforming the Rebellious France into a mass political movement that fights to break with capitalism.
