What a year it has been. The COVID-19 pandemic – and the immense crisis and instability it has provoked around the world – has made 2020 a year that will be remembered for decades and even centuries to come. Last January feels both like it has only just ended, and yet also like a lifetime ago.
For many workers, 2020 is a year they would much rather forget, and its end will likely be met with palpable relief. But the uncertainty, unemployment, corruption, and suffering we have seen so far will not end on 31 December. And nor will the fight to end it.
In the midst of this historic turning point, the Marxist tendency in Britain has taken a huge leap forward, thanks to your support and the sacrifice of our comrades.
We have taken on several new full-timers to help with the production of Socialist Appeal and publication of regular analysis on www.socialist.net. We have expanded our readership exponentially. And we have been at the forefront of the struggle against the onslaught on the left being waged by Starmer and the Blairites.
But this has been a year of challenges as well as opportunities. The national lockdowns and local restrictions rolled out throughout the year have severely hampered our ability to get out and sell Socialist Appeal on the streets and in the labour movement.
This has also greatly reduced the solidarity donations we often receive from those who buy the paper and wish to make an added donation to the cause.
In the Spring, we set ourselves the target of raising £40,000 in donations by the end of the year. This money is needed for the continued expansion of our dedicated staff, and for the launching of a weekly Marxist paper in the near future.
So far we have raised an impressive £30,000. But we still need to raise another £10,000 if we are to reach our target.
We would therefore like to make this end-of-year appeal to you – our readers – to consider whether you or anyone you know could make a donation, large or small, to our Festive Fighting Fund: to help build the Marxist tendency in Britain and support the fight for a socialist future for humanity. This is a revolutionary cause worth giving for.
