Lenin often paraphrased the words of Marx, when he said that there are decades where nothing happens, and weeks where decades happen. How true these words ring over a century after Lenin’s death!
In Britain alone, we’ve had the collapse of one of the most hated Tory governments in history, only to be replaced by Starmer’s anti–worker government, which will be hated even more!
We’ve experienced an explosive movement in solidarity with Palestine – one of the largest mass movements in British history – with millions marching across the UK, demanding an end to Britain’s support for Netanyahu’s genocidal war.
And just last month, we saw the menace of fascism rear its ugly head, with beer-fuelled, anti-migrant pogroms in a number of towns and cities, and powerful counter–mobilisations driving these knuckle-draggers back into the shadows – for now.
All of this just in the past twelve months! And with Starmer’s Labour primed and ready to carry out the diktats of the bankers and bosses – ramming through measures against pensioners, the NHS, and Britain’s poorest families – we can expect more chaos and instability to come.
And that’s not even mentioning the international situation: the catastrophe in Gaza is precipitating a crisis across the Middle East, the Ukraine war rages on, and tensions between the US and China grow by the day.
All of this is having a radicalising effect on consciousness, particularly amongst ‘Generation Revolution’ – i.e. the youth who have grown up knowing nothing but crisis. Never in living memory have more people been open to the ideas of communism and revolution.
One thing is abundantly clear. There will be no return to the ‘nice’, ‘normal’ capitalism of yesteryear. This is the new normal: we are living through a period of wars, revolutions, and counter-revolutions.
Communist Radio
With all this going on, it would be easy to get lost in the maelstrom of events. It has never been more necessary to have a clear, Marxist perspective, which can act as our compass in this tempest of class struggle.
Alongside our fortnightly newspaper, The Communist, and our daily website, communist.red, we want to add a new tool to the arsenal of party members and supporters, to help guide them in their work as class fighters.
That is why the Revolutionary Communist Party has taken the decision to launch a brand new podcast series, Communist Radio, to analyse the key events and burning questions of the week from a revolutionary communist perspective.
Each episode, leading party members will sit down to discuss the latest developments in Britain and worldwide; and to outline how the RCP is organising on the ground, building the revolutionary alternative to imperialism, austerity, and climate catastrophe.
The aim of this new show is to arm party activists and supporters with the facts, figures, and arguments that they need to go out and make the case for communism, and win people over to the RCP.
In our first episode, out this week, for example, leading RCP members Fiona Lali and Ben Gliniecki sat down to discuss the crisis in the Middle East and Starmer’s anti-worker policies, as well as the upcoming freshers period and Fiona’s tour of UK universities.
Communist Radio episodes will be released alongside our regular Marxist Voice schedule. So you will continue to hear high-level talks and discussions on Marxist theory and revolutionary history, taken from our flagship educational events like the Revolution Festival.
On that note, if you’d like to delve into our treasure trove of Marxist theory in audio and video format, then you can browse our back catalogue here.
We want to hear from you!
As with our Towards the RCP series earlier in the year, we want this show to be as interactive as possible, with reports and questions coming from comrades and supporters on the ground.
And that means we need your help to make Communist Radio a real collective organiser.
Whether you’d like to report on your branch’s successes and lessons with recruitment, education, or fundraising, or you’d like to ask a question about current events or organising – please send us your submissions today!
What’s more, we’d love to hear your feedback on the podcast, and suggestions for topics that we can cover in future episodes.
And if you enjoy our material – whether it’s the podcast, the website, The Communist, or the In Defence of Marxism magazine – then please consider donating to the RCP so that we can continue developing high-level theory and analysis in a range of accessible formats.
Lastly, we would urge all of our readers to share the latest episode with their friends, co-workers, family, and anyone else who is sick of the lies in the establishment press, and who wants to fight for a genuine alternative to this dead-end system.
Communist Radio is available on YouTube, Spotify, Soundcloud, Apple podcasts, RSS, and other major podcast platforms.
