Lenin
and his partner Krupskaya arrived in London in exile in 1902. On seeing
the contrast between the enormous wealth on one side and the mean
streets of Londonโs working people on the other, in the โcitadel of
world capitalismโ, Lenin remarked that London was a city of โtwo
nationsโ.
From London Lenin and the editorial board of Iskra
(โThe Sparkโ) coordinated with the Russian Social Democratic Party in
the underground of the Tsarsโ Empire. Lenin wrote some of his most
important works in London, works that helped to form what would later
become the Bolshevik party that led the Russian workers and peasantry
to power in 1917.
On the anniversary of the Russian revoluion the ULU Marxist Society
will visit the places he stayed and the pubs he drank in.
*** IMPOTANT: Meet at Kings Cross station at 2pm. ***
