Since Britain’s latest Prime Minister entered office, Labour has experienced a ‘Burnham bounce’, and is leading in the polls for the first time in over a year. But with instability and volatility ahead, the only place that Burnham is bouncing in the long-run is directly into an abyss.

Endless, short-sighted austerity has ruthlessly decimated the Foreign Office, with job losses, aid cuts, and property sell-offs either planned or already taking place. This has severely blunted British imperialism’s ability to project any influence abroad.

Britain’s latest Prime Minister Andy Burnham will soon have to contend with the reality that Britain is a feeble, third-rate power in an increasingly unstable, hostile word. With every pillar of its former strength eroded, British imperialism’s heyday lies long in the past.
