After the recent resurgence of the mass
movement in Oaxaca
the authorities have responded by launching a wave of brutal repression. Many
activists have been arrested. Among these is APPO activist and comrade of our sister organisation the Militante Marxist
Tendency. Workers and youth in all countries should protest strongly!
One year after the
revolutionary events in Oaxaca, Mexico, the movement has erupted again. The
Mexican ruling class thought they had put an end to the movement with a wave of
repression, but they were wrong. The underlying problems that provoked the
movement have not gone again. See also in Spanish.
The collapse of Metronet , the consortium
entrusted with upgrading the tube, spells the collapse of the whole notion of
‘Public Private Partnership’, otherwise known as the Private Finance
Initiative.
From the makers of the Hands Off
Venezuela film ‘Solidarity‘, and the Sanitarios Maracay short film
series, comes ‘No Volverán – The Venezuelan Revolution Now’, an exciting

The ruling class of El Salvador is gearing up
for major class battles. Feeling the heat of the Latin American revolution, and

interest rates, yet again, to 5.75%. This
was the fifth rise since August 2005.
And the head of the bank, Mervyn King, said that "further action" on
interest rates could be necessary. Most
observers reckon the interest rate that most borrowing and mortgages are based on
– the bank rate – will go to 6% or more by the end of this year.
In September last year the
Conservative party came to power in Sweden. Now Swedish workers have a tough
fight ahead of them to defend the remnants of the Swedish welfare
state. Should the next general election return a Conservative
government, British workers would do well to study the Swedish

As the Middle East descends deeper into a vicious cycle of
death and destruction, the Reverend Blair has stepped once again
onto the world stage as international envoy for the Middle East,
representing the "Quartet" of the European Union, Russia, United
Nations and United States. In this new role, Blair has the strong
backing of the US President George W. Bush, who is the key player. In
other words, Blair will bend the knee as always to US imperialism and
its interests.
The ruling class is clearly
finding the state of it’s forces in Iraq in a dire situation. The army relies on young working class
people signing up; unsurprisingly they have not been coming forth in large
numbers after seeing so many others killed. In light of this desperation, efforts at military
recruitment have hit new heights.
Yesterday the smoking ban came into effect in England. But as socialists, should we be applauding such
state interference in our lives? Smoking kills thousands of people each year, but by supporting a smoking ban are we no better than the New Labour leadership who constantly patronise and blame working class people for the ills of capitalist society?
The media has always distorted the truth to justify the actions of its big business backers. This article from medialens exposes the myths behind so-called press freedom so prevalent in today’s media.
