It was announced earlier today that a deal has been struck in negotiations between university heads and the UCU. But, as Joe Attard explains, this deal is a sell-out. UCU members should reject it and fight for victory.

Marxist student activists report from picket lines at universities across the country. Academic staff have been taking strike action for the past two days in defence of pensions, with more strikes planned for the weeks ahead.

Higher and further education staff are out on strike this week in an on-going dispute with university and college bosses. This follows a national, two-day strike on May 25^th and 26^th, which saw thousands of education workers down tools across the country in protest over low pay. Staff at London Metropolitan University were out on strike today in protest against plans by management to cut courses, with an associated loss of 165 jobs. The demands of the union members taking action today were clear: not one course to be closed; not one job to be cut – an injury to one is an injury to all!
