On Sunday, the Cardiff Communists successfully saw off a targeted attack by neo-Nazi group ‘White Vanguard’, who attempted to disrupt our day school on ‘how to fight the far right’. Outnumbered and outorganised, they were routed with their tail between their legs. This is how we did it.
Earlier in the day, two Liaison Officers approached our day school to inform us they’d been tipped off about neo-Nazi group ‘White Vanguard’ planning to come and ‘protest’ our event.
As a result, a police presence was stationed in the park in case they showed up. As a precaution, we already had comrades patrolling the perimeter of the event. But with this information we put together a plan of how we’d respond to them showing up.

Their timing was impeccable, they arrived just after our discussion on ‘How to fight the far right’, giving us an opportunity to immediately put our ideas into practice! In total, they brought seven of them (presumably a strong showing for this lot) dressed in all black – with some wearing balaclavas and hoods to try and intimidate.
Immediately, around 25 comrades and supporters were called upon to grab flags and form a bloc. The fascists attempted to make a speech, but were drowned out by comrades chanting ‘Smash the system, smash the right, workers of the world unite’ as well as slogans blaming the billionaires, not the boats.
Frustrated by us drowning them out, they took out a pre-bought Soviet Union flag and struggled to rip it apart. Seeing this didn’t have any effect on us, they attempted to rush our literature stalls, but comrades moved to block them, before police got between us.
We continued to chant louder and louder. By this point members of the public began to gather around: some filming, some chanting with us, and a couple of older guys who got in the fascists faces calling them ‘cowards’ for wearing masks.
Demoralised and completely outnumbered, the fascists retreated as we sang goodbye to them.

Comrades then struck up numerous conversations with members of the public who’d gathered to support us, with many expressing an interest in joining the party. On the back of this public attention, we also managed to raise £519 for the party’s coffers, and a further £200 from sales of literature throughout the day.
Let’s be clear, this was a targeted attack against the RCP – they came specifically for us. We have a high profile now, as one of the most prominent far-left organisations in the country. And if we’re serious about planting our flag in the anti-racist movement, and becoming recognised as militant opponents of the far right, we should expect more provocations like this.
We routed them because we outnumbered and outorganised them. It couldn’t be clearer how important it is we build this party. We have the best ideas and methods, we have the ability to smash the far right – now we need to seize the moment and build with urgency, so that we can smash the whole capitalist system.
