Yesterday, 4 April, marked the 74th anniversary of the founding of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). This anniversary is doubly significant, given that this alliance has just welcomed its newest partner Finland. This move is a clear provocation by the West against Russia.
While its defenders insist that NATO is a ‘defensive’ organisation, upholding the ‘rules-based international order’, it is clear that this is not the case.
NATO was founded in 1949, not as an instrument of peace, but as a weapon of the Western imperialists to fight the Cold War. It has remained a weapon of Western imperialism ever since.
In this episode of Marxist Voice, Lotta Angantyr explains the real role and history of NATO and why Marxists are irreconcilably opposed to NATO, as part of our struggle against imperialism and for genuine proletarian internationalism.
