The Cardiff comrades couldn’t have foreseen how viral our SU Presidential campaign social media would go.
In less than a week, our launch video has gathered more than 3 million views worldwide. That is: 1.1 million on our own social media, a further million from a re-share on a left-wing TikTok channel and yet another million through a re-share on a right-wing X account. Immediately after we uploaded it, likes and comments started raining in by the thousands.
To no one’s surprise, this communist smash hit attracted the ire of reactionaries and billionaires alike, with the video attracting comments from individuals such as Sharon Osbourne and groups like Turning Point UK. We can thank these honourable ladies and gentlemen most kindly, because their interactions only served to send our video into the stratosphere!

Our campaign Instagram (alice4cardiff_president) grew so rapidly that Instagram even temporarily blocked it. The admins couldn’t believe the number of views and followers we had garnered over such a short period of time, and were convinced we had paid a third-party service for likes and followers!
Not long had this initial dust settled – or so we thought – before the clip appeared on Rita Panahi’s ‘Lefties Losing It’ program at Sky News Australia.
From LA, to Britain, to Queensland – the Communists are living rent-free in the heads of reactionaries in multiple time zones!
We rolled with the punches and used our raised profile to our advantage. We uploaded daily videos, with Alice explaining our main campaign demands. Each subsequent video garnered several thousand views each.

Our initial fears that this global success would be solely online was soon dispelled. Despite what these reactionaries believe, Alice’s communist programme has been popular with those we have been speaking to.
Not long had we set up a weekly stall on Cardiff campus before two students ran up to Alice, having recognised them from the video!
We’ve also been contacted by a local podcast and a local student newspaper for interviews, along with receiving many messages of support:
“Ultimately, you have my vote…I want you to win this! Best of luck”
“I’m voting for Alice to hold the university accountable for its treatment of its workers and of its lecturers.”
“This is a new style of a student election!”
Clearly, this campaign is opening big opportunities. However, in order to make the most of them, we need to make sure our online success is matched with continual activity and presence on campus.
We are mobilising all our branches to the university over the next two weeks. Comrades will be speaking to students and staff, giving lecture shout outs, agitational speeches, running regular stalls and speaking in student cafeterias.
If we make full use of this campaign, we will not only build up our existing forces, but recruit far and wide!
