As the title suggests, the contents of this book covers the period leading up to, and the start of, the Second World War. This volume includes articles which had Ted Grant’s name to it or were clearly written wholly or partially by Ted. In some cases this has been done by checking WIL minutes to see where Ted was asked to prepare a certain document, as well as examining the style of the finished item. Although we believe a large number of editorials and statements were also written by Ted, these have been left off to a later date as authentication of the author is impossible.
However here we have a marvelous collection of writings on how Marxists should have approached the coming conlict. This includes the writings around the debate over the Revolutionary Military Policy inside the ranks of British Trotskyism. To aid readers, where neccesary we have also included other documents from the period in order to give a complete picture.
The book includes a full introduction to the whole work as well as separate introductions to each section.
