Socialist Appeal is back with a bang! After a winter hibernation, our newspaper is being printed again. And last Saturday, activists were out on the streets selling the paper and spreading Marxist ideas. Join us in the fight for revolution!
On 17 April, with the easing of lockdown, hundreds of Socialist Appeal supporters took to the streets to relaunch the print edition of the paper, as part of our ‘Super Saturday’ sales across the country.
Supporters sold hundreds of copies of the paper to people interested in revolutionary ideas, alongside a wide range of pamphlets, books, and magazines on Marxist theory. Many people also donated money to our fighting fund.
Last September, at our last Super Saturday event, we held simultaneous paper sales in over 29 different locations, including eight in London. This time, supporters were out at 46 different locations, including 15 in London!
Interest
From Glasgow to Brighton, Southampton to Newcastle: the forces of Marxism in Britain are growing day by day.
This is a product of the developing crisis of capitalism, which offers no future for millions. The pandemic has revealed the callousness of the ruling class, who have prioritised their profits over our lives. As a result, over 150,000 have died in just Britain alone.
And whilst the super rich have seen their fortunes rise by billions, millions of us are forced to suffer attacks to our jobs and services.
Only the ideas of Marxism offer a way out of this nightmare. Only by taking power into its own hands can the working class solve the problems of unemployment, poverty, and homelessness, and put an end to exploitation and oppression once and for all.
Hence the growing interest seen on Saturday, with people wanting to get organised and put these ideas into practice.
Enthusiasm
Comrades in London, for example, held a street stall at Angel station where they sold 39 papers, plus a variety of books and other materials. They raised a total of £70.50, thanks to solidarity payments from those sympathetic to revolutionary ideas.

In Sheffield, 15 comrades were out throughout the day – a number of whom had never been out selling before. Socialist Appeal activists joined the Kill the Bill demo in the city centre, selling around 50 papers. They also had an additional paper sale around the main student shopping area.
Their presence in the city was so prominent and visible that one person believed they had paid students to go out and sell the paper! This, of course, is not the case.
The reason that so many enthusiastic young people are willing to go out and sell our paper is because revolutionary Marxist ideas offer real solutions to concrete problems – not empty slogans.

Supporters in Newcastle were joined by supporters from Hexham and the surrounding area. They sold around 40 papers and raised over £125 in just a couple of hours!
In many towns and cities, supporters intervened in the Kill the Bill demonstrations. In Cardiff and Plymouth, for example, Marxists spoke at rallies in opposition to the bill, mobilising in defence of our civil liberties.
Organise
Our recent Super Saturday was not a one off event, but only the re-launch of our print paper. Socialist Appeal supporters will therefore be back out on the streets every week, meeting new people interested in our ideas.
Many of the activists attending Super Saturday were selling the paper for the first time. But we know there are many other socialists and Marxists across Britain who have yet to take the step of getting organised to put these revolutionary ideas into practice.
We therefore encourage you – if you are not already involved – to join us at our next paper sales in building the forces of Marxism; to join Socialist Appeal, the Marxist voice of labour and youth.
There has never been a more important time to get involved and join us in the struggle for socialism.
