Fighting Fund
The Fight Goes On
So after 10 glorious years, Beloved Leader Blair is about to hand in his cards and retire into exile accompanied only by the Bee Gees and Don Bellosconi. How will we cope? How can a shocked nation survive?
Well this may be what he is thinking but the rest of us will be asking – how did we get into this mess in the first place? It is worth remembering that up until just before the last Labour leader John Smith died, Tony Blair was a total non-entity. Then without warning the media were full of stories about this bright new star and no sooner was Smith on the way to the undertaker than we saw a massive campaign from on high to push Blair forward as the 'obvious' choice. In truth the Labour movement was stitched up, we got a Thatcher clone for our efforts – New Labour is nothing more than the continuation of Toryism by other means.
Things will be no different under clone Brown. No wonder they want to stop McDonnell from getting on the ballot paper – people might vote for him! But whatever happens over the leadership question, the fight doesn't stop with it but rather it is just the beginning. This has been and remains one of the tasks of Socialist Appeal. But we need your help. Our Fighting Fund is called a fighting fund precisely for this reason. This month has been the best for sometime with nearly £2,500 received plus a number of pledges waiting to be redeemed. Too many names to mention but we thank you all. Now let's keep it up – every little bit helps in the struggle for socialism inside the Labour Party, the trade unions and the movement at large..
