On an extremely cold and windy morning a large gathering of Civil
Servants, Fire Brigade workers , the deputy leader of the Green Party
and Students from the University gathered outside the Froum in Norwich
to hear speakers from PCS and UNISON call for united action of all
public sector workers in defence of not only the compensation scheme
but also against ongoing cuts and privatisation. The local county
council UNISION representative explained that when redundancy’s were
being made at the level of senior management a generous compensation
scheme was agreed but not with the lower paid in the Civil Servants. It
is clear that as with the greed of the bankers there is one rule for
the rich and one for the rest of us. The fight has started here in
Norwich and it is clear from todays rally that the defensive strike of
PCS to defend the CSCS will rapidly turn into a more generalised
struggle to defend public service workers jobs and conditions once the
election is out of the way.
