As the Pakistani army continued to be
bogged down in a ferocious battle against the Taliban inside its own borders
and yet another British soldier is killed in Afghanistan, to date the one
hundred and seventy-sixth since 2001, it is evident that the British military
is engaged in a war it cannot win.
Postal workers in London are set to take strike action over the next three days.The Delivery Offices
are out on the 8th July, the Drivers (Distribution) are out on the
9th and the Mail Centres are out on the 10th July.
All kinds of manoeuvres are taking place
after the coup in Honduras. The coup organisers want to hold on, but
pressure is being brought to bear for some kind of compromise solution,
which however cannot satisfy the masses. The only real answer lies in
the full mobilisation of the Honduran workers and peasants.

second lively picket against the coup in Honduras took place in London
on July 3rd. Members of the Latin American community, solidarity and
left wing activists gathered outside the embassy to demand the
reinstatement of president Zelaya
This Saturday July 4th trade unionists and labour movement activists
will be converging in Shrewsbury to march for justice for the
Shrewsbury 24. Speakers at the lunchtime rally outside the Shrewsbury
Council Offices will include Ricky Tomlinson, speakers from the PCS and
the campaign itself.

number of IWSN activists took part in the picket called initially by
the ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation), EI (Education
International), ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation), IUF
(International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant,
Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations), four global union
organisations representing over 170 million workers, is part of an
ongoing campaign that will eventually help Iranian workers win their
full trade union and human rights.
Over the last few decades – first under the Tories then under New
Labour – we have seen the official unemployment figures massaged and
fiddled time and time again in order to make them seem more
‘acceptable’ in the official reports and, of course, the newspapers. Is
this unique to the UK? Well no, let’s have a look at the
real rate of unemployment in the US.
Ireland: What with stalled talks over the national wage
agreement and the Pension Levy, an emergency budget worthy of Dracula and a
huge hole in the government’s finances also, there’s no surprise that the
government’s “expendenditure review body” has been christened as An Bord Snip.
On Monday 29th June the workers at Lindsey agreed to return to work
with heads held high. It was a magnificent result and all those involved
deserve a great round of applause.
The coup in Honduras highlights once
again that even mild reforms within the capitalist system cannot be
tolerated by the local oligarchies in Latin America and their
imperialist masters. But Venezuela teaches that if the masses mobilise
reaction can be stopped. Now is the time to mobilise the full force of
the Honduran workers and poor.
