On Sunday 4th October, dozens of Marxist students from all over the country joined the TUC’s No to Austerity! Yes to Workers’ Rights! demonstration, with over 60,000 marching to give the Tory Conference a welcome it won’t soon forget! The high turnout and militant mood showed the Tory government that workers and youth are ready to fight back.
From the 4th – 7th October, the Conservative Party will be holding their annual conference in Manchester. In the evening on Monday 28th September, around 5,000 junior doctors and their sympathisers gathered in Westminster for a semi-spontaneous protest against the attacks on their pay and conditions, and against the attempts by the Tories to slash the NHS and open the door to privatisation. US regulators have discovered German carmaker Volkswagen has been systematically cheating its emissions tests on diesel vehicles, in order to increase its profits. The scale of the scandal is huge, but this is likely to only be the tip of the iceberg. Such “cheating” is an inevitable outcome of a system based only on profit.
