As a full-scale invasion of Rafah looms, the student movement in solidarity with Gaza has been raging across the world. This has opened up a new phase in the struggle to free Palestine.
The student encampments – on both sides of the Atlantic – have been an inspiration, providing a reference point for fury and frustration that is otherwise failing to be channelled and directed effectively.
After months of marching without any results, and with the massacre in Gaza worsening day by day, workers and youth are aiming their fire at the warmongers in Westminster, and at the establishment institutions that are helping to prop-up the Israeli war machine.
Struggle
Members of the newly-founded Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) have thrown themselves into this struggle. In many places, we are playing a leading role in the encampments.
The Communists have taken up the bold demands for disclosure and divestment from the Israeli war-machine, linking this with the need to put staff and students in control of universities, kicking imperialism off campus, and bringing down the Tory warmongers.
And last week, our comrades went live on national television to combat the lies and slanders against the movement, peddled by the bosses’ media and right-wing politicians.
Fiona Lali – national campaigns coordinator for the RCP – called out former Tory minister Suella Braverman as a “war criminal” on GB News. Videos of this debate have since gone viral, providing a platform for communist ideas to millions of people.

Escalate
It’s clear that we need to build on this momentum, and escalate the movement as far as possible.
We must link all of these local struggles together nationally; deepen and broaden out the movement to every school, workplace, and working-class community; and we need to bring the weight of the organised working class into the equation.
Although university terms will soon finish for the summer, the Israeli assault on Gaza looks set to continue. We can’t let the closing of the universities put a stop to the solidarity movement. But this requires coordination on a national scale to develop a plan for how to take it to the next level.
Organise
To this end, this Thursday evening at 18:30, the RCP will be hosting a national online meeting for encampment activists, in order to discuss how we can continue building and widening the student movement for Palestine, and take it forward in the weeks and months ahead.

We call on university students and staff across Britain to actively participate in this discussion, and to help us forge a powerful, united, nationwide movement to kick imperialism off campus.
If you are taking part in an encampment, we encourage you to organise a watch party for the meeting, so that we can arm the movement with a clear perspective of how we can succeed.
As we have seen, our ruling class is organised. It has the media, the police, the courts, the politicians, and the university managers under its control. And they are prepared to use all of these things to attack the movement.
That means that we must get organised too. No one else is going to do this for us. We can only rely on our own strength.
