After months of industrial action by COMMUNITY trade union members at the McKinnon Mills clothing factory at Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, workers have won their demand for a 2.5% pay increase.
The company produced the European Ryder Cup golf teams outfits and are renowned for the quality of their clothing and sportswear. During the action bosses as the firms Edinburgh headquarters offered non-unionised workers a 2.5% pay-rise, and at one point bosses called the police to try and stop their employees picketing outside the factory – a move that failed.
Willy Paterson, the unions organiser for the district, slammed the McKinnon Mills bosses for prolonging the dispute. It was the first pay rise for the workers in 10 years.
