Six people have been arrested in connection with a sick video showing a model of Grenfell tower being burnt. But those responsible for the actual Grenfell fire have never faced justice.
A disgusting video recently surfaced around bonfire night, in which a group of people laughed as they set fire to an effigy of Grenfell tower.
In the video, the effigy burners made comments calling the Grenfell residents ‘ninjas’, referring to burka- or niqab-wearing Muslim women. They are also heard shouting “that’s what you get when you don’t pay the rent” as they cackle.
This insulting footage has emerged as the public inquiry into the Grenfell murder continues. Testimonies have been heard from survivors recalling how they had to climb over the bodies of the dead in order to escape the inferno. Others have recounted how families in the tower had to close the curtains so their children couldn’t see the people who threw themselves from windows.
Class hatred
Public anger over this video has led to the arrest of six individuals. The outrage was so intense that the police had to secretly slip the culprits out of the police station.
At least two of those arrested, father and son Clifford Smith and Bobbi Connell, are members of South Norwood Conservative Club, a local society of Tory supporters. Another was Paul Bussetti, owner of an £8 million block of flats, who receives £30k in rent per month – flats which, according to his tenants, are in much need of repair.
This visible hatred of the Grenfell victims is fed to these cretins by the right-wing press, through their attempts to make the Grenfell community appear undeserving, and by feeding the public a constant stream of racist bile and misinformation.
Theresa May hypocritically joined in the condemnation of the effigy burners, stating that: “to disrespect those who lost their lives at Grenfell Tower, as well as their families and loved ones, is utterly unacceptable.”
Yet May is complicit in a far greater insult. A contract signed with engineering firm WSP to conduct an investigation into the Grenfell cladding, for example, was specifically gagged from criticising the Prime Minister. Those looking into the issue were told that they must not generate “adverse publicity” for the Cabinet Office or other governmental bodies.
Arrest the murderers
The horrific people responsible for this sick video should face punishment. But let us not forget that none of those responsible for the actual fire at Grenfell have been arrested or faced justice. These criminals are at the tops of big business and in the government, with links to the whole of the rest of the rotten establishment.
At the end of the day, it is a lot easier to placate people by arresting a bunch of Tory-supporting nobodies than to arrest and prosecute those in government and big business responsible for the Grenfell murders. We have seen, for example, how slow the police were to seize documents from culpable contractors as they hid their involvement in last year’s tragedy.
Meanwhile, back in the community, 67 out of the 203 families affected by the Grenfell fire are still living in emergency or temporary accommodation. And despite the headline-grabbing promise to fund the removal of similar cladding on other public buildings, potentially flammable cladding is still in place across the country.
We must ask: when will we see justice done? When will those responsible for the burning of Grenfell tower be arrested for their crimes?
The Grenfell murder taints all levels of government, big business and the legal system. Only by taking power from the criminal and parasitic elite will we see true justice.
