Although it may not seem like it from the constant rain and snow hitting the UK at present, Spring is almost with us – and with that comes the new Fighting Fund drive. This Spring will almost certainly see a general election taking place. People will be asking questions about what is the best way forward to save jobs, defend the NHS, safeguard public services, improve education and so on. Judging by the latest opinion polls, more and more people are not very happy with what the Tories have to say on this. But equally there is concern by many people about the poor record of New Labour and what they have to offer should they win the election. There is a great need for answers and a way forward that will meet the aspirations of working class people.
This is the task of Socialist Appeal. Through our paper, our website, our pamphlets and leaflets, our meetings and so on, we aim to provide an explanation to the crisis of capitalism – based on the ideas and methods of Marxism:
- How is it that Capital faces crisis after crisis on the back of huge over production when people are lacking the basic essentials to live?
- Why is there so much poverty when a few seem to have incredible wealth?
- Why is it that we have to pay for a crisis not of our making?
- How can we ensure that our voices are heard rather than being hidden by the shouting of the rich and powerful?
- What is the way forward for the organised working class – and what can I do to help?
