Starmer recently met with the French President in yet another choreographed (and irrelevant) display of statesmanship. One product of these talks is another hare-brained scheme to appear ‘tough’ on immigration. These reactionary attacks on migrants are a divisive distraction.
British weather is known to be volatile, and the political climate is beginning to match this. With financial worries, imperialist tensions, and political instability to contend with, Starmer is feeling the heat. The communists, meanwhile, are making hay while the sun shines!
With Starmer’s government presiding over chaos, this year’s ‘Big Meeting’ came at a turning point for the labour movement. Trade union and left leaders must now turn their radical words into action, and build genuine opposition to Labour’s austerity and militarism.
