Speaking at the recent national conference of Socialist Appeal supporters, Alan Woods discusses the crisis of capitalism and its impact on consciousness.
The 2008 financial crisis was a turning point in world history. The decade since has seen endless austerity and attacks on the working class.
At the same time, the economic crisis has destroyed the political and social equilibrium. Everywhere we look now, the status quo is collapsing and political earthquakes are breaking out.
In particular, Alan highlights Trump’s recent declaration of a trade war; the Brexit vote and the fragile state of the European Union; and the crisis of imperialism, war, and fundamentalism in the Middle East.
All of these are symptoms of the old order dying and a new society trying to be born.
