The February issue of the paper is our 250th edition since we launched the Socialist Appeal as a magazine, more than 23 years ago. There has never been a more important time than now to fight for the revolutionary ideas of Marxism. We therefore appeal to every reader to take out a subscription and help strengthen our work towards the goal of socialism.
2016 is looking set to be the most turbulent in recent history. The world economy is heading for disaster, with even the major banks and capitalist strategists predicting a new, deep slump. Political instability rocks every area of the world, as the ruling class everywhere stumbles from one scandal to another. Capitalist austerity is weighing down on workers and youth, who see no future on the existing basis.
In one country after another, the enormous anger and frustration of the oppressed is beginning to find a political expression. The landslide victory of Jeremy Corbyn to become the leader of the Labour Party is part of this process. For the first time in decades, we have a Labour leader who is opposed to austerity and war, and is raising the question of nationalisations.
The prospect of a Corbyn led Labour Party in power terrifies the ruling class. Hence the unprecedented campaign in the capitalist media to vilify him, and discredit his every move. Thus the need for a Marxist paper has never been greater. Firstly, to counteract the nonstop steam of lies and propaganda from the ruling class against the labour movement. Secondly, to arm the movement with clear revolutionary Marxist ideas, and to organise the most class-conscious workers and youth in the struggle against capitalism.
The February issue of the paper is our 250th edition since we launched the Socialist Appeal as a magazine, more than 23 years ago. Although we regard Socialist Appeal as the best paper in the labour movement, it is limited with regards to its frequency. The need for a fortnightly paper, and ultimately a weekly paper, has never been greater. But to do this requires a solid base. We are therefore launching a campaign to increase our subscriptions by 250 before the end of the year.
It has never been more important to fight for a world without unemployment, misery and war. We therefore appeal to every reader to take out a subscription, and thus help strengthen our work towards this goal. Encourage those around you at work and school to do the same. If you are in a trade union, why not take out a bulk subscription for your branch?
If you agree with our ideas, get in touch at contact@socialist.net and find out how you can join us in the struggle for socialism.
Subscriptions cost £18 per year for 12 issues, including postage and packaging. (Europe = £30, Rest of World = £36).
